Currently involved in development and evaluation of potential novel therapies for osteoporosis (both post-menopausal and glucocorticoid-induced or iatrogenic) by microscopy.
Our discoveries in early 1990's revealed that certain non-steroidal anti-estrogens were estrogen-like on bone, a finding which opened up the field of SERMs (Selective estrogen receptor modulators) and their role in treating metabolic bone diseases.
Earlier research in role of bone formation and its contributions to osteopenia arising from space flight (in collaboration with NASA) and in the effects of heavy metals on bone metabolism.
