Areas of expertise Vibration suppression: My work includes developing a device for suppressing upper limb tremor for patients with multiple sclerosis, using piezos to minimise vibration of flexible composite structures and applying semi-active damping devices to cable structures.

Non-linear dynamic testing and modelling: A significant part of my recent work has been in making new developments relating to hybrid (or dynamic substructure) testing. I have also studied, for example, the non-linear modal dynamics of cables and the rattle dynamic of gears.

Non-linear non-destructive testing: I am interested in using non-linear ultrasonic techniques to detect damage in structures, including adhesive kissing bonds and bulk material non-linearity changes in composites.
