Areas of expertise I have worked in diabetes research since 1986, when I joined the group led by Professor Edwin Gale at St. Bartholomew’s hospital. In 1993, I took over responsibility for the day to day running of the ENDIT islet cell antibody reference laboratory and subsequently the islet autoantibody assay laboratory. During this period I was responsible for development of the micro insulin autoantibody assay, which is now the method of choice for measuring insulin antibodies in children. In 1997, I moved to Bristol with the team and I have continued to supervise the autoantibody assay laboratory under Professor Polly Bingley and have been closely involved in international efforts to standardise autoantibody measurement. Recently, I have developed my interest in pancreatic imaging with projects aimed at characterising pancreas size in diabetes.
