Dr Hollis is a researcher and lecturer in integrated circuit design (computer chips).
He specialises in low-power design for embedded systems. In particular, he addresses the communication that occurs inside a computer chip, to try and reduce the need for communication. Areas addressed also include routing algorithms and interconnect architectures.
He is also interested in how applications can be parallelised to run on today's highly-parallel computer chip designs.
Examples of the systems he is interested in are mobile telephones, digital picture frames, automotive computers, and even toasters.
