| Areas of expertise |
I research how living and fossil animal skeletons function, examine why skeletons are shaped in a particular way, and track these patterns through evolutionary time, noting how shape and function relate to patterns of species diversity and environmental factors. I am particularly interested in the evolution of the skull and its relation to feeding behaviour in dinosaurs, birds, crocodiles and more recently, mammals.
