Biography

I received my PhD. in Applied Linguistics from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. My multi-site ethnography examined the politics of language, power and identities across the Italian Canadian community in Toronto. The specific focus of the study was on the discursive negotiation of identities among Italian Canadian youth.

My postdoctoral research focused on multiliteracies, identities and minority language students in Canadian schools. This research was part of a Canada-wide project (www.multiliteracies.ca) funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (Early, Willinsky and Cummins, 2002). My current research continues to explore minority language issues, identities and culture in comparative educational contexts through ethnography and action research.
