I am a qualitative health services researcher, with interest in how qualitative methods can be used to investigate patients' and professionals' understanding, experiences and decision-making about health and healthcare.
I have undertaken several studies on patients' use of complementary medicine, having been awarded several grants in this area. These include the following: a NHS Post-Doctoral Award to undertake research on the use of complementary medicine for asthma; a linked NHS Researcher Development Award studying the role of complementary medicine within NHS Primary Care (undertaken by Dr Lesley Wye); a grant to conduct a survey of the prevalence of complementary medicine use and predictors of use among asthma patients in primary care; and a Department of Health grant to investigate male cancer patients' views and experiences of complementary medicine.
I also undertake qualitative research on other topics relevant to primary health care.
