My research interests are primarily in conformal field theory, which combines algebra, geometry and theoretical physics to attempt to describe such diverse fields as string theory, critical phenomena in 2 dimensional statistical mechanics and topological quantum computing, as well as giving surprising new mathematical results.
In my doctoral thesis I proved the existence of a larger class of conformal field theories than were previously thought to exist, and I am currently trying to recast this and other physics results in the abstract language of category theory.
Since moving to Bristol I have also become interested in quantum algorithms.
