I am currently quantitative researcher on School Effectiveness and Education Quality in Southern and East Africa (SEEQ); one of the five large scale projects forming the DfID funded Research Consortium on Implementing Quality Education in Low Income Countries (EdQual). Working with the SACMEQ II data set, I am employing general statistical and multilevel analyses to obtain insights into the factors affecting the quality of education of Grade 6 pupils at the end of primary education in fourteen sub Saharan African countries forming the SACMEQ collective of Ministries of Education in the region. The aim of the work is to identify the key pupil background, school context, resource and school process factors which best explain variations in Reading and Mathematics attainment of pupils attending schools in the region with a view to informing policy on improving the education quality of pupils in schools in this area of Southern and Eastern Africa.
