My research interests lie primarily in the field of criminal justice using socio-legal methods. I am co-author of Criminal Justice (fourth edition, OUP, 2010) as well as the monographs Judging Social Security (OUP, 1992) and Child Support in Action (Hart, 1998). I am co-editor of three edited collections: Access to Criminal Justice (Blackstone, 1996), New Visions of Crime Victims (Hart, 2002), and Regulating Policing (Hart, 2008). Having spent seven years studying restorative justice, my most recent projects (undertaken in 2005 and 2007) have concerned legal aid decision-making.
