Areas of expertise Ischaemic heart and peripheral vascular disease have been identified as NHS treatment priorities. I undertake collaborative research with Prof GD Angelini and Dr JY Jeremy, at the Bristol Heart Institute, investigating attenuation of medial and intimal hyperplasia in vein bypass grafts (a pathophysiological process accounting for premature occlusion and thrombosis of many peripheral and cardiac bypass grafts). I am also involved in an ongoing programme of vascular laboratory-based research with NHS colleagues into clinical aspects of vascular disease, including systemic effects of intermittent claudication and modalities of vascular investigation.

I am a member of the national Joint Vascular Research Group (JVRG) participating in national multicentre trials (among others) of Vein Graft Surveillance; General vs Local anaesthesia in carotid arterial surgery (GALA); Asymptomatic Carotid Surgery Trial (ACST); Carotid Artery Sub-occlusion Study (Principle Investigator); & Outcomes in Venous Surgery.
