My current project involves the study of the interrelationships and evolution of fossil and living cats. Cats are found on all continents except Australia and Antarctica and have important roles in local ecological communities. Despite their current diversity, many cat species are under serious threat of extinction; and studying changes in past diversities through the fossil record helps us understand the ever changing dynamics of species diversity or morphological disparity.
My research focuses on the present and past diversity of cats, in terms of taxonomy, morphology and function by investigating the relationship between these different forms of diversity. I also utilise phylogenetic methods to understand the evolutionary history of cat diversity but also geographic distribution.
