Areas of expertise Understanding the mechanisms of microvessel function in health and disease. My research focusses on the role of VEGF in regulating endothelial cells function at all levels from molecular regulation to whole systems physiology.

This includes the role of blood vessel growth and permeability in cancers, heart and vascular disease (including atherosclerosis, and coronary ischaemia, myocardial infarction, peripheral vascular disease), diabetes, (including retinopathy, nephropathy, vasculopathy and peripheral ischemia), rheumatoid arthritis, renal disease, lymphatic diseases, oedema (swelling) including burns, shock, septicaemia, meningitis, nephritis.
