Mandatory teaching qualifications for universities?

The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) is to require HE institutions in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to record the academic teaching qualifications of all their staff from 2012/13.  The information required is to be found on their Web site at: Staff record 2012/13 Academic teaching qualification.  The coding includes whether staff have completed a training programme accredited against the UK Professional Standards Framework and whether they are Recognised by the HEA as an Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow or Principal Fellow.

The move is welcomed by the Higher Education Academy and no doubt all engaged in raising the standards of teaching in higher education.

The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) is the official agency for the collection, analysis and dissemination of quantitative information about higher education.
