David Nutt's sacking condemned by national neuroscience community
Posted: 08/11/2009
Controversy surrounding the sacking of Professor David Nutt - past Bristol Neuroscience Director and now at Imperial in London - from his position as the government's Chair of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs has led to extensive discussion and media coverage not only on drug legalisation, but also wider debate about the role of scientists in government.
In light of David Nutt's position as President Elect of the British Neuroscience Association, the BNA and the British Association for Psychopharmacology have joined forces to condemn Professor Nutt's sacking.
Directed to the Home Secretary Alan Johnson MP, responsible for Professor Nutt's dismissal, the letter voices concerns on behalf of the neuroscience community in the UK. You can read the letter in full via the BNA website.
Comments on the BNA/BAP stance should be directed towards Dr Hannah Critchlow (hmc39@cam.ac.uk) at the BNA office.
