MOVIES AND THE MIND
Book launch for 'Art in Mind'

Date: Sunday 10 May 2009

Time: 17:00 - 18:00
Venue: Arnolfini, Bristol
How to book: Free to attend, but must be booked in advance.  Please see Festival of Ideas program.

Art In Mind traces Luke Jerram’s research and practice during the last ten years, focusing on his investigations and experiments into the creation of artwork for the edges of perception. Art In Mind is an accessible discourse which, through anecdote, observation and journal, provides a fresh insight into the artist and his process.

Unveiling his own dreams and visions in works such as Retinal Memory, Volume and Sky Orchestra, the artist goes on to explore dream space itself as a territory for making art in The Dream Director.

At this launch event author Luke Jerram will be there in person to describe and discuss the ideas in his newly-published book.

Professor Chris Alford, one of the book's contributor's and professor of psychology at the University of the West of England, will also attend and speak about his research on the brain, psychology and perception.

This event is being held alongside the films featured in ‘Movies and the Mind’ a mini-festival showcasing four films that raise questions about the nature of the brain and what happens when it goes wrongand, uniquely, the chance to find out some of the answers.

Bristol is one of the UK’s leading centres for neuroscience research and clinical practice. At each of these events, following the film itself, experts from Bristol Neuroscience will be on hand for questions and discussion.

Leading scientists will be able to explain the latest neuroscience research, and those working in the clinical neuroscience specialities will speak of their experience treating people with brain disorders.

We do hope you can join us and explore the science of the brain with Bristol Neuroscience.

Partners

Bristol Neuroscience is delighted to be working in partnership, thanks to Andrew Kelly, with the Bristol Festival of Ideas.

We are also very grateful to the Watershed Media Centre and Arnolfini, with particular mention to Maddie and Mark, the Watershed programming team.

Without these organisations and individuals the festival would not be able to go ahead.
