A night to remember

Press release issued: 13 March 2002

UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL
A night to remember

Over 70 Bristol senior citizens will be donning their evening dress and dancing the night away at Bristol University's Student Community Action (SCA) Annual Dinner Dance tomorrow [Thursday, March 14].

The evening starts at 6 pm with a sherry reception, followed by a jazz band at 6.15 pm and dinner at 6.45 pm. After dinner, guests will have the opportunity to try out their ballroom dancing to music played by a string quartet. The evening will close with a raffle.

All the guests are from the local community - Redland, Clifton and day centres all over the city. The guests have paid £4 per ticket with SCA covering additional expenses through sponsorship. Students will act as door-to-door escorts, providing transport for those people who can't get to the Union themselves.

Brighde Campbell, SCA Co-ordinator, said: 'We sold out of tickets within half a day and now we have a waiting list, so I guess the Dinner Dance has a pretty good reputation on the senior citizen circuit.

'It's one of SCA's most fun events. The evening is open to anyone and for some guests it's the highlight of their year. The Dinner Dance is a great way to expand on the work the Day Centre carries out every Wednesday in the Students' Union.'

The Students' Union Day Centre is looking for more members. If anyone is interested or knows someone who would benefit from the Wednesday social club, get in touch with the SCA office on Bristol 954 5888.
