Sixty budding young sports stars of the future will be at Bristol University's Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health for a three-day programme of sporting fun from 30 June to 2 July.  The 10- to 11-year-olds have been selected from 22 local primary and secondary schools to take part in the Multi-Skills Gifted and Talented Camp.

The Camp, for gifted and talent children in physical education, is a joint collaboration between the University and Ashton Park School Sports Partnership.

During the event a variety of approaches, through the theme 'children moving and thinking with brilliance', will be used to help the children develop their physical skills.

The event is designed to improve the children's ability in hand/eye co-ordination, balance, kicking, strength, agility, jumping, running, power and catching.

On the final day sports psychologist, Dr Wil James, who works with top amateur, professional and Olympic medal winning performers will talk about how to use psychology in sport.

The Camp will be run by staff from the University and participating schools together with University students who took the Community Sports Leader Award through the Centre for Sport's community programme last year.

Jim Holmyard, Sports Development Manager at the University and one of the organisers of the event, said: "We are delighted to be hosting this Camp in collaboration with Ashton Park School Sports Partnership.  The Camp is a great way for talented young athletes to learn how to develop their skills.  It's also good fun and a way of helping to open up the University to a wide range of local schools.  We're very much looking forward to having the children here."
