University celebrates quality award
Press release issued: 11 August 2005
Bristol University's Accommodation Office is celebrating being the first university accommodation office in the country to receive the Community Legal Service Quality Mark. This will be awarded on Monday 15 August 2005 in recognition of the hard work and professionalism offered by the service.
The Office provides a comprehensive service to over 300 clients per year advising them of their housing rights. This includes representation at Court when necessary. In a recent case they represented students seeking to reclaim a rent deposit they had paid to a landlord. The claim was successful resulting in repayment of the £1,500 they were entitled to.
Elizabeth Moss, one of the students, said: "The Accommodation Office were brilliant. Without their help and support it is unlikely we would have secured the £1,500 owing to us. Obviously this is a substantial amount of money for us as students struggling to pay our way through university."
Pru Lawrence-Archer, University Accommodation Officer, is delighted at the achievement: "Having the Quality Mark means that our clients are reassured that we provide a high quality service that is independently accredited and audited. It gives our students confidence that if they need help in obtaining their rights in housing we are able to assist them."
Geoff Mountjoy, Regional Director for the South Western Legal Services Commission, today offered his congratulations to Bristol University in achieving their Quality Mark: "Bristol University Accommodation Office has joined a network of solicitors and other agencies throughout the South West who give quality assured information and advice. By using a Quality Marked supplier you can be assured that the organisation has met the high standards required of it."
