Wise up to the web

17 August 2006

An online tutorial co-designed by Bristol academics gives web users guidance on sorting the wheat from the chaff.

What kind of web material can students and researchers feel confident in using and how can we differentiate between an unreliable and an excellent website?  Answers to these and other questions on the successful use of the Internet for teaching and learning and for research are addressed in the free online tutorial, the Internet Detective.

The resource, designed by academic technologists at the University of Bristol (ILRT) and Manchester Metropolitan University, was originally launched in 1998 and was released as a revised edition in June. The new edition was featured in The Chronicle of Higher Education on 30 June.
