Bristol University will be creating its very own Dragon’s Den this week. Over 150 students and managers from a variety of organisations will be taking part in an innovative event for aspiring leaders from Monday, 25 September until Friday, 29 September.

The biggest and most imaginative training event of its kind, ‘Insight into Management’ hopes to provide students with an insight into industry, preparing them for employment once they graduate.

Students will have the opportunity to take part in an exciting line up of activities, including an Innovation Fair, whereby 20 teams of students will be trained on ‘elevator pitches’; short sales pitches conducted as if you had entered a lift with your boss. Once trained the teams will be literally carrying out the ‘elevator pitches’ in the Students’ Union’s lift with a partner from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Students will also be working in teams towards targets in a series of scenarios and business games with an emphasis on skills training, personal development, reflective learning and self-awareness. All activities will be under the expert supervision of employers, professional trainers and careers advisers.

Dave Jarman, Insight Director at Bristol University, said: “We felt that a regional event would be a really good idea not only to benefit students at Bath and Exeter by providing access to the course but also diversifying the experience for our own students. The event will introduce employment seeking students and managers from the biggest graduate employers to provide an invaluable insight into the world of work and skills development vital to success in the graduate environment.”

‘Insight into Management’ is an annual event organised by the University of Bristol’s Careers Service. This year’s event will bring together leaders from over 20 high profile organisations including AstraZeneca, Cadbury-Schweppes, Cancer Research UK, Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Rolls Royce, along with students from the Universities of Bristol, Bath and Exeter.

Jeff Goodman, Careers Service Director, said: “The event has a real impact on those who take part and it’s fantastic to see so many of our students get so enthused by their graduate employment prospects – it really is a flagship event for the Careers Service.”

The Insight into Management event will take place on the first floor, University of Bristol Students’ Union, Queens Road, Bristol at the following times: Monday 2pm-5pm, Tuesday 8.30am-6pm, Wednesday 8.30am-6pm, Thursday 8.30am-9pm, Friday 8.30am-2pm.
