Students will be putting on their running shoes for charity later this month for Bristol University’s annual Half Marathon and 5k challenge. The event takes place on Sunday, 26 November at Coombe Dingle Sports Complex and there are still places available for members of the public.

The event will raise money for the Ability Sports Association, a registered charity, which provides professionally coached sport and active recreation for disabled and disadvantaged children and adults in the South West.

This is the 17th year the event has run and organisers are hoping to repeat last year’s success by attracting over 600 runners. The event is open to all, and it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and get fit at the same time.

Tom Noble, Athletic Union (AU) Chair, said: “The half marathon is always an excellent event attracting so many different people. Even now that it has been moved to November we still have great numbers with both our students and members of the local community looking to raise loads of money for charity.”

The half marathon starts at 1 pm at the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex, and the 5k challenge starts ten minutes later at 1.10 pm. There will also be prize presentations made, upon completion of both events outside the Coombe Dingle pavilion.

The age qualifying limit for the half marathon is 17. The deadline for half marathon entries is Sunday, 19 November, a week prior to the event. There is also an age qualifying limit of 8 for the 5k challenge. There is no deadline for the 5k challenge, and entries can be made on the day itself.

The event is open to individual and team entries.  Entry costs, in advance, are: half marathon - individual, students, £10; public, £15; teams of four, students, £35; public, £50.  5k charity fun run - individual, students and public, £5; teams of four, students and public, £16.

Entry forms, dietary advice and training information are available from the Athletic Union office, Bristol University Students’ Union, Queen’s Road, the Indoor Sports Centre, Tyndall Avenue or Coombe Dingle Sports Complex, Coombe Lane. They can also be downloaded from www.bristolau.co.uk.
