The Centre for East Asian Studies has been hosting the ‘China in the World’ Postgraduate Research Summer School, a week-long, EU-funded event.

The University’s Centre for East Asian Studies (CEAS) has been hosting the third ‘China in the World’ Postgraduate Research Summer School, a week-long event funded by the European Union Marie Curie Conferences and Training Programme.

‘China in the World’, a four-year series organised in collaboration with the Worldwide University Network (WUN) , provides research training in Chinese studies for PhD students and junior researchers from EU member and associated states, China and the USA.

Previous Summer Schools were hosted by the universities of Nanjing and Leeds; the theme of this year’s Bristol-hosted Summer School is China, Europe and the World.

The proceedings included a talk on Wednesday by Dr Surin Pitsuwan, secretary general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), who received his Honorary degree from the University earlier this week.

The Summer School is the first CEAS event since the arrival of the Centre’s new director, Professor Yongjin Zhang, on 1 July.
