Bristol ChemLabS take Chemistry to South African pupils
4 November 2008
Two researchers from the School of Chemistry have been taking science to new audiences, in partnership with Rhodes University in South Africa.
Dr Linda Sellou and postgraduate student Preeti Kaur were the latest representatives from Bristol ChemLabS to visit Grahamstown (home of Rhodes University), following a trip by Professor Dudley Shallcross and Bristol ChemLabS School Teacher Fellow Tim Harrison earlier this year and reciprocal visits to Bristol by Rhodes University staff and postgraduate students over the summer.
Linda Sellou and Preeti Kaur went to schools in Grahamstown and associated townships to hold lectures and demonstrations for pupils, adding to the already extensive outreach work conducted by Bristol ChemLabS in Ireland, China, India, Malta, France and Singapore. The engagement activity included working with a number of Rhodes’ postgraduate chemists to develop their own outreach capacity.
The Bristol ChemLabS visit to Grahamstown received coverage in the local press, including an article in the Grocott’s Mail which is available online.
