Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Dr Andrew Garrad, Managing Director of the world’s leading renewable energy consultancy, Garrad Hassan Group Ltd and Mr Trevor Smallwood, Chairman of Advanced Transport Systems, at today’s [10 July] degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building.

Bristol University is awarding honorary degrees to Dr Andrew Garrad, Managing Director of the world’s leading renewable energy consultancy, Garrad Hassan Group Ltd and Mr Trevor Smallwood, Chairman of Advanced Transport Systems Ltd, at today’s [10 July] degree ceremonies in the Wills Memorial Building.

Dr Andrew Garrad, Managing Director of Garrad Hassan Group Ltd, will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Engineering at the 11.15 am ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is Professor Alan Champneys of the University’s Department of Engineering Mathematics.

Mr Trevor Smallwood, OBE, former Chairman of First Group, and Chairman, Advanced Transport Systems Ltd will be honoured with the degree of Doctor of Laws at the 2.30 pm ceremony. The orator for the ceremony is Sir James Tidmarsh, Pro-Chancellor of the University.

An honorary degree is a major accolade, awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement and distinction in a field or activity consonant with the University’s mission.
