Community groups invited to apply for Raising & Giving Fund grants
Press release issued: 26 February 2010
The University of Bristol Students’ Union is inviting local voluntary and community groups in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset to apply now for grants of up to £1,000 from the Union’s Raising & Giving [RAG] Fund.
The fund is open to local groups supporting people who are disadvantaged or isolated – in particular children, older people and those with long-term illnesses.
Last year, almost £9,000 was distributed through the University of Bristol RAG Fund to 14 different projects. These included Time 2 Share, whose grant helped a social supportive group for young people with Autism and Asperger’s syndrome in Bristol. Other grant recipients included the Julian Trust, whose grant supported the operating costs for a night shelter for the homeless.
RAG is a year-round student run organisation that raises money for local, national and international charities through street collections and events. This year students have raised money by staging events such as a procession through the city, a sponsored bungee jump, and Jailbreak - a challenge where students must get as far away from Bristol as they can in just 36 hours via any means possible.
David Mansell, RAG Coordinator, said: “It is incredible to see how much time and effort the students put into the fundraising events, and this is supported by the record breaking amount raised so far this year.”
The deadline for grant applications is 31 March. For application details, contact The Grants Team at Quartet Community Foundation tel 0117 9897700, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the Quartet Community Foundation website where you can apply online.
