Physical activity firmly on the agenda for public health

15 October 2010

Professor of Exercise and Health Sciences Ken Fox has received a Fellowship by Distinction (FFPH) of the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal College of Physicians. This is the first award of its kind to a specialist in physical activity.

Prof Fox received the Fellowship for his contribution to physical activity research and policy.  He has served on several government committees as an expert in the role that physical activity plays in prevention and treatment of ill-health over the last 15 years.

He said: ‚ÄúThis is a great personal honour for me and a long way from my starting point as a physical education teacher in the 1970s.  It is particularly gratifying that the Faculty have now fully embraced our area of work, especially at a time when there is critical reorganisation of public health from the NHS into local government."
