Researchers from the University of Bristol’s School of Physiology and Pharmacology, have revealed the mechanisms which underlie sudden cardiac death in patients with heart failure.

Lead author, Professor Rebecca Sitsapesan said: "Diseases of the heart and circulatory systems are the main cause of death in the UK and account for almost 191,000 deaths each year — one in three deaths. These new findings are important because we can use this information to help develop new treatments for patients with heart disease to reduce the risks of sudden cardiac death.”

The research has been covered by several medical news sites including Scientist Live, Net Doctor and Health Jockey, News Medical.
