Faculty Research Directors: new appointments

A number of new appointments have been made to the role of Faculty Research Director at the University.

Faculty Research Directors work together through membership of the University Research Committee to deliver the University's vision for research and enterprise, each one providing leadership to their faculty.

Professor Paddy Ireland (University of Bristol Law School) is the Faculty Research Director for the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, from 1 August 2013 to 31 July 2016.

Professor Kate Tilling (School of Social and Community Medicine) will be the new Faculty Research Director for the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2016. She will succeed Professor Andrew Dick (School of Clinical Sciences).

Professor Christopher Jarrold (School of Experimental Psychology) will be the new Faculty Research Director for the Faculty of Science, from 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2016. He will succeed Professor Alistair Hetherington (School of Biological Sciences).

Professor Robert Bickers (Department of History (Historical Studies)) will be the new Faculty Research Director for the Faculty of Arts, from 1 August 2014 to 31 July 2017, and Professor Kate Robson Brown (Department of Archaeology and Anthropology) is the new Deputy Faculty Research Director for the Faculty of Arts from 1 September 2013 to 31 August 2016. Professor Bickers will succeed Professor Alexander Bird (Department of Philosophy).

They join Professor Paul Weaver (Department of Aerospace Engineering), who is Faculty Research Director for the Faculty of Engineering (14 June 2010 to 31 July 2014), and Professor Neil Williams (School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine), who is Faculty Research Director for the Faculty of Medical and Veterinary Sciences (1 August 2012 to 31 July 2015).

Professor Guy Orpen, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research said: ‘I would like to thank all colleagues who have held this role, and to welcome colleagues who are soon to take it up.’
