Bristol shortlisted for Times Higher Education Awards

12 September 2014

The University of Bristol has been shortlisted for the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards under the category of ‘Outstanding Support for Early Career Researchers’.

Bristol and Newcastle universities are jointly cited for ‘Collaborating Across Cultures: The 2013 RENKEI Researcher Development School in Bristol and Kyoto’, a programme co-designed with the University of Kyoto to prepare researchers to be global leaders of the future.

Staff and postgraduates from Bristol, other UK universities and five Japanese universities spent two weeks in Bristol in July 2013 and then reconvened in Kyoto in December 2013 for the programme’s concluding sessions. The impact of the experience on the participants was profound, says Bristol co-ordinator Dr Alison Leggett: ‘Eight months on, the group continues to communicate over social media and several are considering working in the other country.  The confidence and learning gained by participants has already been put into practice and will be invaluable to them as future research leaders and global citizens.’

The THE Award winners will be announced on Thursday 27 November at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
