Why does Nightline exist?

Line drawing of grumpy man under a cloudComing to University is the first extended period away from home for many students. A challenging, and stressful time; one that can be amazingly fun, terribly scary or a mixture of the two.

As you move through your time at University, things may no longer be new and scary, but worries about friends, financial problems, questions about sexuality or relationships with housemates are all very common and can come up at any time.

Issues or problems like these can surface, but your usual support networks have changed or moved away. You don't think your friends want to know, or you don't want to talk to them Who can you talk to? . Where can you turn for that support? Nightline is here to do just that: to give you someone to talk to, who will always be there, and is just a phone call or e-mail away.

The first Nightline was set up in the 1970s, and here at Bristol we are one of about 35 Nightlines, from all around the country and the rest of the world.

Originally started in Essex, the Nightline concept has continued to grow and grow over the past 30 years, with thousands of volunteers across the country giving up their time to be there for, and help other students.
