On the day

We hope that you will enjoy your visit and that the open day will encourage you to apply here.

Make sure that you visit the exhibition for answers to any queries you may have about applying, and to find out about our student support services and about life at the University. Please visit our subject sessions and welcome sessions pages for further information including details of the tours we will be running during the day.

Document checklist - don't forget to bring...

We will send you a link to your open day checklist, telling you what to bring on the day, with your confirmation email. It will also be available here when bookings go live.

  1. Your confirmation letter - this lists all the sessions that you have booked a place on. All of our confirmation letters contain a barcode, which we will scan to register your attendance. If possible, please print your letter (in black and white or colour) using a laserjet (or similar) printer, as scanning is more effective on barcodes which have been printed this way. You will need your letter to gain entry to each of the sessions you have booked.

When you arrive

Registration

You will need to register to let us know you're here - ideally when you arrive, but you can do it at any point during the day. You can do this at:

  • Temple Meads train station (find one of our student stewards wearing red T-shirts)
  • The park and ride at Cribbs Causeway (find one of our student stewards wearing red T-shirts)
  • The registration point at The Refectory on Woodland Road
  • One of a number of boxes marked 'registration points' on the campus map.

Catering

We have many catering outlets across the main University campus.

There are also numerous coffee and sandwich shops on St Michael’s Hill and Park Street.

Facilities

  • Wi-Fi - Free Wi-Fi access is available for open day visitors at all of the University's wireless locations. We will publish the password here prior to the open day.
  • Luggage - Unfortunately we are unable to store luggage at any of the University buildings during the day
  • Meeting point - The Hawthorns on Woodland Road provides a meeting point if you get separated from your party
  • Rest area - The Hawthorns on Woodland Road provides a rest area throughout the day
  • Lost property - Lost property will be kept at The Hawthorns on Woodland Road
  • Toilets -Toilets are available in most University buildings: ask a student steward (in a red T-shirt) for the nearest one.

Safety

We want you to have a great day when you come and visit us. We are expecting the day to be extremely busy, so there are a couple of things we would like you to bear in mind.

Most University buildings are situated on public roads which will be open to traffic as usual on the open day. Large numbers of visitors mean that pavements in certain areas can become very crowded: please take care when crossing roads.

There will be first-aiders in most University buildings and there will be a designated first aid area in the ante-room at the Hawthorns on Woodland Road, and the University's Security Services can be contacted in an emergency on 0117 3311 223. If you experience a problem, staff at the registration point will be happy to help. Members of staff will be available in all of the buildings that are open on the day, and student stewards wearing red T-shirts will be able to help you. Please listen carefully to the stewards if there is a fire alarm.

If you have access requirements or impaired mobility, please let us know in advance to help us prepare, and please make yourself known to a member of staff in each of the University buildings that you enter, so that they can explain what you should do in the event of a fire.

Getting around

Please remember to allow at least 15 minutes to transfer between activities in the main University campus and at least 20 minutes to get to the open day exhibition. If you are planning to visit halls of residence, you should allow at least an hour and a half.
