Most of our first-year undergraduates live in University accommodation, with a variety of residences within walking distance of the main campus: staff will be available to discuss your accommodation options. Some of our Stoke Bishop residences will be open to visit, using the free shuttle bus from Woodland Road, or the free park and ride service.

The Careers Service provides specialist information, advice and guidance to current students and graduates in their first three years after graduation. We offer one-to-one appointments and deliver an extensive programme of careers events and employability skills development, including contributions from Bristol graduates and employers. Our JobShop provides information about part-time, term-time and vacation jobs, many of which are based at the University or within the local area. The University of Bristol has one of the highest employment rates for graduates in the country, and is one of the UK universities that is targeted most often by top employers. Staff will be on hand to talk about the range of activities carried out by the Careers Service, as well as telling you about how we can help you find and gain a job, and about the career destinations of Bristol graduates.

When you choose a university, you're also choosing your home for at least the next three years, so it's worth finding out about the city. Bristol is full of character. It is a thousand years old but right at the cutting edge. It is a dynamic yet laid-back city, culturally rich but down-to-earth. It offers museums, galleries, theatres and live music, fantastic shopping opportunities and great sporting events. Staff from Visit Bristol will be available to give you information about Bristol as a world-class place to live, work and visit.

The International Office supports international students through the application process, and throughout their university careers. If you are thinking of applying to Bristol from overseas, members of staff from the International Office will be available during the day to give you information and advice.

Bristol’s library and IT services provide students with access to research and learning resources in print and online, and over 2,600 study spaces located across 10 libraries, with information and support provided by specialist subject librarians. IT services provide access to computing facilities, software, a support service desk and IT training. There is wireless access around the campus, and computer rooms in faculties, libraries, student residences and the Computer Centre, open 24 hours a day. Our Residential Networking Service provides Internet access in rooms in halls of residence. Visit us to find out more, including about the libraries which are available to visit.

Although our open days are primarily aimed at undergraduates, there may be visitors in your party who are interested in further study at postgraduate level.

At postgraduate level we offer a range of taught qualifications and research opportunities, many available on a full- or part-time basis. Our staff will be on hand to give you information about postgraduate opportunities, our postgraduate open days, and visits to our departments and schools.

At the University of Bristol we support entrepreneurs and innovators of all kinds – from inventors and commercial entrepreneurs to social enterprise campaigners. We provide expert advice and support to students who are looking to start projects and businesses: the University makes over £70,000 available every year to invest in student ideas. We have a student-focused business incubation space and support service, Basecamp. We provide teaching and training inside and outside of the taught curriculum, and we bring real business leaders in to speak to students and inspire them. You can talk to staff from the Division of Research and Enterprise Development to find out more about why Bristol is the best place to bring your bright ideas.

Financing your time at university career can seem complicated at first, but we think a degree from the University of Bristol is a great investment for your future. Achieving academic success is so much easier if your finances are sorted, though, and a little planning now will make all the difference later. Staff will be on hand to offer advice on which costs to consider and how best to manage your money. The Student Funding Office will also be running a welcome session.

At Bristol we provide a wide range of services for the wellbeing of our students. Staff from our teams will be available throughout the day to answer any questions you may have about the range of support that we offer.

Our Disability Services team works across the University to support our students, from pre-admission through to graduation. Our disability advisors coordinate funding applications and arrange assessments of needs. Before you apply to Bristol we can help you to consider the requirements of your chosen course, and provide advice about the potential impact of your disability on your studies. It is essential to start the process of applying for funding in the summer prior to starting University, as it can take time.

Bristol is home to students of all faiths and none. Our Multifaith Chaplaincy Centre provides a place for prayer and reflection within the University: throughout the week, the centre hosts a number of worship/meditation groups following various faith traditions, as well as lunches and other opportunities to explore issues of faith and spirituality. Members of the Multifaith Chaplaincy team offer support to all members of the University, regardless of belief or background.

The University is unusual in that we have our own GP practice on campus, with a dedicated team of GPs, nurses and administrative staff. The vast majority of students are registered with us, and have access to a range of services that are designed specifically for their needs.

Difficulties can occur at any time in life, especially during periods of transition such as your student years, when it may help to talk to a counsellor. The Student Counselling Service provides a wide range of services, including supported self-help, a resource library, workshops, therapeutic groups and individual counselling. If you are uncertain about which service to access you can book an initial assessment appointment to help you decide.

The Students' Union is an important part of university life. Run by students for students, the Union provides an opportunity to try new things and get involved in our many clubs, societies and charity events, including Student Volunteering and development activities, as well as being there for advice and support. The Union also hosts music gigs, events, the student newspaper and a radio station. Students' Union officers will be on hand throughout the open day to give you information on these activities and how you can get involved. The Students' Union will also be running some welcome sessions.

Every year nearly 500 University of Bristol students go abroad as part of their degree. Depending on your course, you may have the choice of studying and/or working abroad for anything between three and 12 months in countries and universities around the world. Come and see a representative from the Study and Work Abroad team to discuss the many international exchanges and placements that we make available.

The Undergraduate Admissions Office will be providing a one-stop shop for information relating to admission for all of our courses at the University of Bristol, so if you don’t have time to visit the open day subject displays, you can come and talk to us. As well as responding to general enquiries, admissions staff will be on hand to answer queries concerning the equivalence and acceptability of alternative qualifications, the level of competition for entry, and the various degree courses that we offer. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the UCAS admissions process.

The University provides a nursery which caters for the children of students and staff. The nursery is open on weekdays only throughout the year (except Bank Holidays and University closure days), and offers up to ten half-day sessions per week. Children are offered a wide range of indoor and outdoor play activities, in a caring setting, which cover all aspects of the early years foundation stage. Staff from the University nursery will be available to speak to throughout the day.

Peer support is available to all first-year students through our Student Navigation Network scheme. The scheme links new students with experienced students in the same faculty to help ease the transition to university life. We also offer information and advice to mature student during the application process and throughout their time at university. Current peer mentors and mature students will be on hand to answer questions.
