Naming Individuals on a Grant
Naming Individuals on a Grant
- The University recognises the real benefits (practically, qualitatively and financially) that can accrue from naming individuals on grants
- when naming an individual on a grant, the author must consider whether there are a number of potential candidates of whom they are aware who might be put forward on the grant
- where there is more than one possible candidate, there must be a rational and defensible selection decision, based on objective criteria relating to the job description and person specification
- if a named person is going to have a significant input into writing the grant submission, the above considerations must be taken into account before inviting the individual to contribute
- if the grant is awarded, the named person will be appointed without need for further advertisement
- authors should be aware that an individual who is made redundant and who feels aggrieved about not having been appointed as the named individual on a grant, may bring a claim against the university of unfair selection for redundancy if they have appropriate skills and were not appropriately considered for the position
