Andrew Woodfield
Andrew retired from a Readership in August 2007 and is now a Senior Research Fellow. He taught and researched mainly in philosophy of mind and language, and continues to work on problems of language and linguistics. Among his other current research interests are (i) investigating the nature of music, (ii) elucidating the philosophical issues raised by modern biotechnology. He lectures on these topics at universities in Brazil, where he lives for half the year.
His publications include Teleology (1976, C.U.P.), Thought and Object (ed) (1982, O.U.P.), and many papers in the philosophy of mind and language. He has played a leading role in a number of international projects.
Outside philosophy, Andrew’s interests include discovering new parts of the world and learning their languages, gardening, farming, the countryside, authentic food and music.
