Diploma in Philosophy

The Postgraduate Diploma in Philosophy is intended primarily for graduates in subjects other than philosophy who wish to study the subject in depth, bringing them up to postgraduate level.

You will be taught and supervised by members of a friendly and informal Department with an outstanding reputation in the UK and internationally. You will be guided throughout by a personal tutor who will help you structure your course of study.

You will take three postgraduate seminar courses, and select a further three courses, with the advice of your tutor, from 2nd or 3rd year undergraduate courses.

Upgrading from the Postgraduate Diploma to an MA can be considered in exceptional circumstances, depending on marks achieved in the first semester.

You will be an active member of our flourishing research culture. You will be encouraged to attend and participate in the three weekly departmental research seminars, and the weekly Postgraduate Seminar. The Seminar is designed to allow you to develop your argumentative strategies in a supportive environment.
