Staff Survey 2015

Dear Colleagues,

The 2015 Staff Survey has now closed and I would like to thank all of you who completed the survey. We achieved a response rate of almost 60% of all staff which is higher than in any of the previous versions of the staff satisfaction survey. The results will help to shape the University's actions going forward and will, in particular, feed into the development of the 'People' section of the University's new strategy.

The survey responses have been analysed and are now publicly available. Local level results have been cascaded and the Staff Experience Group will be providing further information about next steps.

How are the survey results being used?

The University is committed to ensuring that staff feel informed and listened to.

We have created the 2015 Staff Survey Action Plan in response to the survey results, which is updated with progress made every 6 months. We have also used the results of the Staff Survey to set the agenda for the Staff Experience Group activities which aim to improve the working environment at the University of Bristol. 

You said, we did...

Here are some of the ways that your feedback from previous surveys has shaped and informed changes at the University:

  • The introduction of the annual Staff Review process for all staff to meet with their line manager to discuss their achievements and future goals.
  • The creation of ‘Brambles’, a space specifically for staff to enjoy time away from the office, and also to host a variety of our staff social activities.
  • The launch of the Professional Services Excellence Awards in 2014, to celebrate the contribution of our unsung heroes who support our students and academic staff behind the scenes.
  • We are continuing to review our approach to internal communications, the start of which is a more regular and streamlined all staff email bulletin.
  • A shorter and more responsive staff survey process, to encourage more staff to feedback their opinions about working life at the University.
