Professor George Banting, Dean, Faculty of Medical and Veterinary Sciences

Overview

We have a long tradition of excellence in research and teaching and are proud to be considered the best at what we do. Through our Faculty Graduate School we train postgraduate students across the Medical Science disciplines of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Physiology and Pharmacology, and in Clinical Veterinary Science, whose students are based in laboratories situated alongside clinical and diagnostic practices and the University farm in rural Langford.

Our research is well supported by major grants from funding bodies such as the Medical Research Council (MRC), the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), the Wellcome Trust, the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK and Defra, as well as from industry and the European Union. £30 million in annual research funding enables us to work on interdisciplinary research themes, which provide a supportive environment for effective and ground-breaking research, from first principles through to advances in clinical care, and training the next generation of scientists.
