Programme overview

First Semester

The MA in European Literatures offers the opportunity for detailed, comparative study of European and British literature in the 19th and 20th centuries. We welcome graduates of English Literature, Modern Languages and other arts and humanities disciplines.

You will study works belonging to the major cultural traditions covered by the School of Modern Languages and the Department of English. Our academic staff have expertise in all the following literatures, with specialisms ranging from the Enlightenment to the present day:

  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Hispanic
  • Italian
  • Russian

Through the programme, you will develop advanced critical and analytical skills in comparative literary study. The programme culminates in a dissertation, an extended piece of original academic research.

As a postgraduate, you will be considered a full member of the academic community, with the opportunity to participate in the many research seminars and conferences taking place within the Faculty of Arts.
