Programme overview

This programme will give you the opportunity to follow four specialist pathways in archaeology, while also developing knowledge and understanding of the theory, methods and practice of the subject across a variety of historical, environmental and material contexts.

These pathways are:

  • Landscape and Prehistoric Archaeology
  • Maritime Archaeology
  • Twentieth-Century Conflict Archaeology
  • Historical Archaeology of the Modern World.

The programme will allow you to gain practical experience of investigative techniques and technologies (eg geophysics, survey, excavation, GIS) and to engage with interdisciplinary perspectives drawing on anthropology, cultural and historical studies and geographical sciences. You will also be able to undertake a work placement relevant to your pathway during the course. A particular emphasis of the programme is placed on working with practical archaeological material and producing professional-level reports.
