The MRes is a two-year, part-time programme designed to train graduates who will be capable of leading innovation in the field of systems engineering. It is run in very close collaboration with industry and alongside the existing EngD in Systems.
An upper-second class degree (or equivalent) in a subject related to the proposed MRes research project.

The taught component of the programme is offered via short course modules, typically of five days' duration.
The teaching is divided into two streams:
The remaining 10 credit points are obtained from a wide range of units in the areas of general management and risk management, all at Masters level. They are determined by the student, the academic supervisor and the industrial supervisor to best meet the requirements of the research topic.
Dr David Barton: Mathematical engineering-related modelling; non-linear systems and their dynamics; numerical methods for dynamical systems; stochastic (noisy) systems.
Professor John Davis: Civil engineering systems; asset management; performance management; strategy and risk; field monitoring; fluid mechanics.
Professor Patrick Godfrey: Systems engineering; strategy and risk; utilities and facility management; highways; airports; offshore engineering; water engineering; civil engineering.
Professor Chris McMahon: Engineering design; application of computers to the management of information and uncertainty in design, and to design automation.
Dr Theo Tryfonas: Systems engineering, security and forensics; safety.
Dr Mike Yearworth: Development and application of systems-based methods for working with complex organisational and socio-technical problems; sustainable systems; open architectures and resilience; research programme management; project management.

English-language requirements: 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in all bands, in addition to the standard entry requirements.
