Programme overview

The aim of the MEd Special and Inclusive Education programme is to provide important opportunities for education professionals to critically engage with thinking and theory in the field of Special and Inclusive Education. The programme sets out to engage with debates and explore a range of different critical perspectives. You will explore national and international issues of inclusion and examine the ways in which schools, governments, local authorities and local communities can reduce barriers to participation and learning for all children and young people.

The programme is designed to include local, national and international participants from a range of backgrounds, providing a very rich source for mutual learning and development throughout the course. Students on this programme are welcome to join the Inclusive and Special Education Network, a forum for researchers, students, practitioners and policy makers to meet and generate new and innovative ideas for research collaborations.

This programme is intended for teachers and other professionals working with students who are experiencing barriers to learning and participation and/or other special educational needs, whether in mainstream, special schools/ units or early-years settings.
