Programme overview

This programme is especially designed for those holding an appropriate degree who wish to expand their career options by building expertise in Finance. This MSc allows you to develop your understanding of economic theory and econometrics, including recent advances in the subject, and to acquire a solid understanding of finance theory and its applications to financial markets and corporate finance.

Entry requirements

An upper second class honours degree (or equivalent qualification) in Finance or another quantitative subject, for example Mathematics, Engineering or Physics. Degrees in Accounting and Economics will also be considered.

Core units:

Optional units

You must complete four units, at least three of which should be selected from:

  • Banking
  • Cases in Financial Management
  • Credit Risk (subject to approval)
  • Derivatives
  • International Finance
  • Investment Management
  • Quantitative Finance

The final unit can be taken from the following list:

  • Advanced Macroeconomics
  • Advanced Microeconomics
  • Applied Public Policy Analysis
  • Microeconometrics
  • Personnel Economics
  • Public Organisation
  • Time-Series Econometrics
  • Topics in Development Economics

Unit availability is subject to staffing and timetable constraints. Please note: the number of available places on some units may be capped.

Dissertation

The MSc is completed with a project-based dissertation of up to 15,000 words. The dissertation topic is decided upon after discussion with a supervisor. You will be able to draw from lists of suggested dissertation topics.
