Our taught programmes

A postgraduate taught degree can give you the edge, whatever your career plans. It can also help you specialise in a certain area, or allow you expand your undergraduate interests further. For some, a taught postgraduate qualification can be a new start in a completely different field, allowing you to broaden your horizons.

Top-level teaching

Whatever the motivation for studying, Bristol has a wide range of programmes to choose from. Highly regarded by employers, a Bristol postgraduate degree is a sound investment for your future. Most taught programmes at Bristol lead to a Masters qualification (eg MA, MSc, MRes, MEd, LLM), which combines taught units with a research project. These programmes are typically one year full time or two year part time. In some areas, you may be able to choose a postgraduate diploma or certificate which offer specialist qualifications, such as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or a Graduate Certificate in Social Work. Studying on a taught programme will allow you to experience a mixture of learning styles, including lectures, seminars, group work, independent study and experimentation.

When do taught programmes start?

Taught programmes usually start in the Autumn term, with registration due to start in last week of September for 2014. Classes and lectures normally commence the week following this introduction period.

Please see the University key dates for exact dates.

Part-time programmes

Many of our programmes are available on a part-time basis. Please check programme details to see if the programme you are interested in is available on a part-time basis. Please be aware that if you are an overseas student, you will need to check your visa requirements as student visas are not generally issued for part-time study in the UK.

Online and distance learning programmes

Unfortunately as a general rule, we do not offer any online/distance learning programmes, with the exception of the following programmes which contain varying elements of distance learning:

Please be aware that these programmes may still require some attendance at Bristol throughout the year and so may not be suitable for those who are unable to easily visit or attend Bristol. Please contact the Department should you wish to discuss study arrangements for these programmes.
