About us

Hot air balloons over Bristol

Public engagement is well established and supported at the University of Bristol. We were one of the first universities in the country to set up a public engagement team tasked with encouraging and embedding engagement across the University. The team has grown over time to encompass both building institutional capacity for public engagement, as well as running our own cutting edge public engagement projects.

We were instrumental in the creation of the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE), and in partnership with the University of the West of England, we continue to host the NCCPE, which shares best practice within and beyond the higher education community.

Engaging with the public about our research and teaching is an integral and exciting part of academic life at Bristol. It ensures our work has impact and relevance beyond the University's walls and that society's values and opinions inform our research.

Whatever your reasons are for doing public engagement – whether it’s enriching your research and teaching, involving knowledge from outside the University, meeting funder requirements, or accessing new sources of income - we are here to support and encourage the myriad of ways in which people here wish to engage with those outside the University.
