PWE and Institutional Audit 2009

Dear PWE colleagues

The University is about to embark on Institutional Audit.  For those of you that may not know too much about this process (including me up until recently) Institutional Audit is the review process for higher education institutions in England and Northern Ireland. Audits are carried out by a team of academics who review the institution's quality and standards, using their knowledge of higher education. After each audit, QAA (body undertaking the process) publishes a report on the audit team's findings.  At the heart of the audit is the quality of student learning (as opposed to research quality).

The University underwent the last Institutional Audit in April 2004 and the next one takes place next month.  PWE colleagues may be pleased  to see that the 'pre-assessment' documentation makes reference (for the first time) to the PWE agenda.  This is a good example of how our work ultimately contributes to one of the main University objectives - how well students learn!  It also helps to position PWE as a central component of the strategic plan and University 'business'.

For information you can download and view the University submission to the 2009 Institutional Audit (PDF 622KB) with specific PWE reference on page 56.  The panel have also asked to view the results of the 2003 and 2007 staff survey and subsequent commitments documents.

Regards
