Portering

The portering service is available in all major Precinct buildings, Student Union and Victoria Rooms and the aim is to provide a responsive service that meets our customers specified needs. The postal and delivery service also extends to university outstations and external agencies e.g. halls of residence and hospitals.

The service is generally provided from 7am to 10pm in term and 7am to 6pm out of term, however there are exceptions to this rule and we endeavour to be as flexible as possible.

Portering at weekends and outside normal hours can be arranged with prior agreement.

Porters carry out a number of core duties but also building specific duties as follows:

• Building security
• Reception/door duties
• Internal and external post
• Room preparation
• Examination duties
• Ceremonial duties
• Minor furniture removals
• Lost property
• Building evacuations
• Deliveries
