STFC Impact Acceleration Account 2020-2021

The Science and Technologies Facilities Council (STFC) have developed an Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) to support academics to take innovative ideas towards commercialisation through activities not currently supported by other STFC innovation funding. Objectives include strengthening user engagement, supporting knowledge exchange and commercialisation at an early stage, and supporting activities that enable impact to be achieved in an effective and timely manner. We particularly welcome innovative and creative ideas for developing impact.

The University of Bristol has been awarded a 2020 STFC IAA of £50,000 which will be allocated through this new competitive funding call. All costs must be committed by 31/3/2021 but activity can happen after this date if necessary.

Call 2: The deadline for submissions of completed applications is 14th August 2020 at 5pm. All applications will be reviewed by an internal panel with decisions back to applicants by 28th August. The earliest project start date is 12th October 2020. The latest project end date is 31st March 2021. We have a total of £16,500 available

Eligibility: All applicants must be been in receipt of previous or current STFC funding. PI’s must be permanent members of UoB staff or have a contract that extends past the end date of their proposed project.

STFC IAA 2020 – Guidelines for applicants

These awards are designed to support a wide range of activity that enables different routes for the development of impact. It aims to support early stage impact plans from industry engagement through to market research and prototype development.

This scheme also supports Knowledge Transfer Secondments (KTS) which can be used to support: the outward movement of research staff from the University to partner organisations or the inward secondment of someone employed by a partner organisation, to work on a specific project or impart specific expertise or knowledge. Both inward and outward secondments must have strong links to STFC-funded research and should not last longer than 9 months from the project start date, carried out as a block of time or a series of shorter visits.

Collaborative Development Awards – up to £2,000 each

STFC IAA 2020 – Guidelines for applicants

These awards are designed to provide assistance to those looking to develop their engagement with external partners. We very much encourage applications from Early Career Researchers (Pathway 1 or 2, Grades >J) as a means to develop their networks. We welcome activity that supports the creation of new networks and links outside of academia such as conference attendance, collaborator meetings or running networking events. All activity should have the aim of developing the impact of your research and enabling next steps for your ideas.
