Research groups

If you wish your research group to be represented in Pure and the group's related records, including publications, projects, activities, etc, collated and displayed at group level, please email Pure Support including the following information about your group:

Research groups in Pure are people-based - their publications and other records will be linked to the group from the start date of the group, or the person's employment start date, whichever is later. An example of a group on the Explore Bristol Research web site is Medieval Studies. As you can see there are tabs for research outputs, people and awards/activities.  You might wish to use these search URLs (copy the long URL when you have created your search) for links from your own web site. This way your group's publications are always up-to-date on your web site, as long as they have been entered in Pure.

Managing research groups in Pure

If you are a designated administrator or editor in your department, school or research group, you can apply for organisation (group) editing access.  To gain this type of access, email Pure Support indicating which department, school or research group you would like to support in Pure.

If you have editing access to organisations, you will see a Master data tab in the grey band near the top of your screen. In this section you will see a link on the left hand side labelled Organisations.  Find your organisation (group) record if it exists. Please do not create groups yourself as Pure central adminstrators will incorporate your group in the organisation hierarchy.   If you want to add a new group - email Pure Support and request that the group is created (it can be created in visible or sensitive mode - please specify)

If you would like to add information to an existing record, e.g. contact details, etc,  open another of the existing organisation records to see how it was completed - e.g. Microelectronics and add the equivalent to your record's fields.

Now Save the record - at this stage making sure the record is not visible, i.e. is set to Sensitive (See How to change web site visibility settings in Organisations). Now open the record again, select the Persons link on the left hand side, then click "Add persons and their content". This opens up a new window where you start writing in the person's surname and Pure will find them, click, and they will appear on the right hand side. When you have added all the people you wish to include in the group, select "Next". In the "Employed as" drop-down box, always select "Member" for each person except if they are the group leader in which case select "Group leader".  You will then be asked to select which of their publications, activities and projects that you wish to connect to the group. The system defaults to selecting all related records but you can de-select related records duiring this process.  Once the person is connected to the group, all their related future records in Pure will default to being linked to this group, unless, on the point of creation (or later on when editing each record) you remove the link manually. To remove the link - open up the record, go to the authors section and click the minus sign next to the group - remember to save any changes you make.

Pure will take a few minutes to add all the people and records, then the group is complete. When you are happy with it, make the record visible on the Explore Bristol Research web site and check that the group is displayed OK.  Locate your new group under the web site's Faculties schools and groups section, and the group's publications, activities and projects will be collated there.

Please take care
