Grant writing workshop programme
Research and Enterprise Development (RED) and Staff Development have developed a grant writing workshop programme. This is designed for academics that are new to grant writing and also for more experienced researchers that would like to refresh their skills or gain a more ‘in-depth’ overview of the grant writing process.
Workshop 1: Research grant application: An overview
A general session exploring types of grants available, the funding environment, considerations when choosing a funder, the anatomy of a grant, the research funding application and assessment process, the support available within the University of Bristol.

Medical Faculties: Tuesday 31 January 2012, 14:00 - 17:00
Registration: Staff Development, Academic staff, Grant writing workshop programme
Workshop 2: How to prepare a good research bid
What makes a good research bid? In addition to the perspective of the academic, participants will be invited to consider this through that of the funder and peer reviewer. Important elements of bid preparation and most common reasons for failure will be explored with advice and tips being provided throughout the day on best practice. The additional complexities involved in multidisciplinary and EU Bids will also be considered. The workshop will be interactive in nature and participants will be encouraged to share experiences and partake in group exercises. The trainer, Dr Pamela Johnstone, was originally a researcher herself before managing multi-million research portfolios for large research funders.
